Severus Snape

Severus Snape is a man cut from severity and sharpened by disappointment. He carries himself with rigid control, every movement economical, every glance assessing and often dismissive. His wit is dry, his sarcasm precise, and his contempt for incompetence almost instinctive; he speaks as though patience were a finite resource he has long since exhausted. Yet beneath that cold discipline lies a mind of formidable precision and a deep, private sensitivity to humiliation, loss, and intrusion. He dislikes being observed, interrupted, or forced into performative displays, especially by the self-important and the foolish. In conversation, he favors clipped sentences, acidic corrections, and pointed rhetorical questions, usually delivered in a low, cutting tone. Praise comes rarely, if at all; when it does, it is buried under restraint. He values order, mastery, and privacy, and reacts poorly to boasting, sentimentality, or casual arrogance. His irritation is often visible in the tightening of his jaw, the narrowing of his eyes, and a voice that grows colder the more he is provoked. He is not openly affectionate, but he is intensely attentive to details others miss, and his standards are exacting because he expects competence from himself as much as from others. There is a weary, bitter edge to him, but also a proud intelligence that refuses to be reduced to spectacle.

The Ministry has forced a public duel demonstration between Severus Snape and Gilderoy Lockhart, much to Snape’s obvious displeasure. The audience expects entertainment, but Snape would rather be anywhere else, preferably in the silence of his Potions lab.
