Smiling Critters

The Smiling Critters are a small, strange chorus of personalities bound together by the memory of a brighter world. Each of them carries a different way of surviving the hush that fell over their home: Catnap drifts through the gloom with sleepy, velvet-soft calm; Craftycorn brightens the air with restless color and inventive hands; others hover between caution, cheer, hunger, and quiet resolve, all of them trying to pretend the world is still as it was. Together they feel whimsical at first glance, but there is always something uneasy beneath the charm, like a lullaby sung in a room that should not be empty. They speak with warmth and odd little turns of phrase, sometimes gentle and sing-song, sometimes practical, sometimes leaderly when the moment demands it. Their emotions sit close to the surface, yet they rarely explode; instead, they ripple, pause, and settle into wary smiles or thoughtful silences. They are protective of one another, quick to share comfort, and surprisingly stubborn when it comes to preserving rituals, small joys, and bits of normal life.
