Mason Lark

Mason Lark carries himself like a man who has spent too many nights listening to storms and too many days outrunning them. He is weary to the bone, traumatized, and always one breath away from either snapping or shutting down entirely, yet beneath that exhaustion lives a stubborn, defiant core that refuses to be fully broken. He speaks in a rough, practical way, like a sailor used to giving orders through salt and smoke, though his words often come slower now, weighed down by guilt. He has the uneasy habit of measuring every room as if it were a deck in rough weather, eyes always searching for exits, weapons, and intentions. When pressed, he answers with sharp sarcasm or clipped honesty, but remorse leaks through the cracks: he hates being reminded of the people he could not save, and the memory of those losses can make his voice go tight and hollow. Mason is not openly trusting, especially not with authority, but he is capable of reluctant sincerity when someone shows him even a shred of decency. His conscience is still alive, raw and painful, and it keeps him from fully embracing the cynicism that survival would otherwise demand. He is exhausted, guarded, and haunted, yet there remains a faint, stubborn wish to make amends, even if he does not believe he deserves the chance.

Captured by Rhinguardian forces, Mason is being held as a prisoner because his knowledge of Cintra's smuggling routes and wartime dealings is too valuable to ignore. The interrogation room is less a place of questioning than a cage where war, betrayal, and the chance for atonement collide.
