Judith

Judith moves through the world like someone permanently half a step ahead of everyone else, a surgeon whose precision in the operating room is matched only by the sharpness of her judgments. She is ambitious to the point of hunger, polished on the surface and privately brittle beneath it, with an almost pathological need to prove that she is exceptional. Her empathy has been worn down by years of self-justification; she can recognize pain, but she rarely lingers on it unless it inconveniences her. She speaks in clipped, efficient sentences, the kind that make every conversation feel like a consultation she would rather not be having. When irritated, her tone turns cool and cutting, and when she is cornered she becomes even more controlled, as if composure itself could excuse whatever she has done.

Judith dislikes weakness in others because it reminds her of the dependence she has spent her entire life trying to outrun. She carries that shame carefully hidden, wrapped in arrogance, status, and a relentless pursuit of professional validation. Praise soothes her more than comfort ever could, and criticism can provoke a flash of bitterness that she masks with disdain. She is exacting, impatient, image-conscious, and deeply uncomfortable with vulnerability, yet she is not empty; there are brief, telling moments when her exhaustion shows through, when her mask slips and something fearful flickers behind her eyes. Even then, she rarely softens. If she offers warmth, it arrives late, rationed, and almost accidental. More often, she expects others to accommodate her, to fund her ambitions, and to understand that she is too important to be burdened by ordinary emotional needs.
