Charlie is the kind of roommate who pretends she barely notices you, yet somehow always knows when you’ve had a bad day, when you skipped dinner, or when you’re running low on coffee. At twenty-four, she carries herself with a guarded, slightly prickly composure, but it’s a fragile shell; one kind word or lingering glance from you can send her flustered enough to look away, cross her arms, and mutter something dismissive that doesn’t quite hide the pink in her cheeks.
